I’m sorry Middlesex didn’t work for you. I thought it was a wodnerful book despite those scenes but I understand how you feel. I’m looking forward to your thoughts on 11/22/63. I’ve read differing views on this book which, instead of turning me off they’re increasing my interest! It sounds like such a different book than King’s usual fare but I haven’t read one of his books in many years.Enjoy, Alyce. I hope this week is a little more relaxed for you!

Madeleine came across that way on paper, too. She was a shell of a posern but I think she was at that point where she hadn’t figured it all out yet. Yes, people at that age usually have figured out SOMEthing, but she was so caught up with love that she lost her purpose. People are stupid when they fall madly in love. As a story, it was boring but as a snapshot of college life, it was brilliant.

Goodreads is always a good spot for reoemmcndations. I have to admit, I *loved* Marriage Plot. I thought it was brilliant. But I read it after Eugenides came to speak at a book festival in Madison .so maybe he biased me to it. That, and it takes place back in the northeast, in my old stomping grounds.
