The Interpreter of Maladies
Much of American culture manifests in immigration, from leaving a home and finding a new one. In this collection of short stories, Lahiri puts together the complex lives of immigrants, those who find themselves in between worlds. The themes are relevant to anyone who has ever felt apart, lost, or different from a social, racial, ethnic, economic standpoint. She illustrates the collision — and beautiful fracture — of worlds we half-identify with.
